Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday said that he would be happy if the border row between his state and Nagaland was resolved mutually and amicably. Lauding the attempt made by members of Assam-Nagaland Goodwill Team, which called upon him today, he assured them of all support and cooperation.
“I will be happy if the people of both sides sit together and arrive at a mutual understanding. Mutual resolution to any problem is the best solution. Our Government will extend all support and cooperation to such initiatives,” he said. Assam has good relations with Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh despite border problems, he noted. An eight-member team of Assam-Nagaland Goodwill Team said the people of Nagaland want solution to the long festering Assam-Nagaland border amicably and peacefully outside the jurisdiction of the apex court. “The matter should be resolved outside the court with both sides arriving at a mutually agreed solution through give and take policy.
Towards this end we have the blessings of our Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and various organisations,” a key-member of the Goodwill team Tali Longkunar said.
The members also apprised Gogoi about the talks they have had with different organisations such as Asom Sahitya Sabha and All Assam Students’ Union who have also expressed their willingness for a peaceful solution to the vexed issue once and for all.
The members pointed out that re-solving the dispute between Nagaland and Assam would have a great impact on the overall economic develop-ment of the entire region. (PTI)
