SHILLONG: A delegation led by John F Kharshiing, chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya along with other traditional chiefs met Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Group Chairman, Mukul Roy on Friday.
During the meeting, the traditional chiefs urged the TMC to continue extending their support in the demand of the traditional indigenous Chiefs for the early fulfillment and implementation of the solemn commitments made by the Central Government with regards to Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement, of 17 August, 1948.
The delegation also apprised Roy, of difficulties faced by the people and their Chiefs living along the Indo-Bangla Border, due to the delay in opening of more traditional border markets (Hats) located within the Indian border and requested the Chairman of the Parliamentary Party of TMC to take up the matter with the Central Government.
