NPP forces Siangshai to contest from Khliehriat

JOWAI: The National People’s Party, Jaintia Hills has issued a directive to former PWD Minister, Simon Siangshai, forcing him to contest in the forthcoming general assembly Election from 6-Khliehriat LA Constituency from the party’s ticket.

The Jaintia Hills District NPP, in its meeting on Thursday, unanimously decided to issue a directive to Siangshai to contest in the upcoming election from 6-Khliehriat.

“Siangshai is the NPP vice-president of the Meghalaya state unit in charge of East and West Jaintia Hills District and we want him to contest in the election in 2013 from the party ticket”, in a release issued here.

“The NPP also reminded that Siangshai has lost the last assembly election with a low margin. He was defeated by Nehlang Lyngdoh with a low winning margin”, the release added.

Siangshai was elected for three consecutive terms. First in 1988, second in 1993, and again in 1998. He was also the PWD Minister, Industries Minister, Minister in charge of the soil and Water conservation, PWD building and the Labour Department.

He also represented Rangad-Lakadong District Council Constituency twice in 1978 and 1983 respectively. Speaking to our Correspondent, Siangshai said, “I will follow the directive of the party if there is no aspirant candidates who wish to contest from the Party’s ticket”.
