TURA: The powerful anti-vehicle landmine planted by GNLA militants outside the gate of the family home of Williamnagar SP J F K Marak with an intention to take his life has been safely detonated by a bomb squad of the Indian army which flew in to East Garo Hills on Saturday morning.

Bomb experts of the army landed by chopper at Rongrenggre field at around 10am and proceeded to the site where the device was planted.

They later placed a high explosive slab above the landmine which triggered a massive twin explosion safely detonating the device.

Several thousand onlookers witnessed the controlled detonation from a distance at Nokil A’we locality where the device was initially planted by GNLA militants in their bid to assassinate district SP J F K Marak.

The controlled explosion created a huge impact sending shock waves together with dust and plumes of smoke into the air. Army personnel who examined the device prior to its detonation indicated that it was an anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mine.
