City police conducts raids; liquor seized

 SHILLONG: In the biggest every liquor raid, the city police on Tuesday raided several wine shops, restaurants and seized a huge quantity of both country-made and India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

Police also arrested several persons in this connection.

Despite the Government declaring Tuesday as dry day on the occasion of Diwali, several wine shops were found selling liquor.

The raid was conducted over Polo area by Pasteur Beat House and seized around 26,040 ml of IMFL and 35 litres of country-made liquor from one Drik Thabah. A similar raid was conducted at AC Lane, Khyndai Lad where 3600ml of IMFL were seized from the possession of one Mithun Barau. The Madanriting police recovered 50 litres of abandoned country-made liquor and a few bottles of IMFL.

A huge amount of IMFL bottles were seized from Laitumkhrah Bazaar and Rynjah area during similar raids.

Police seized 12 bottles of beer and 24 bottles of IMFL from Sun Flower Restaurant at Iew Mawlong. The police also arrested the owner of the restaurant Tasi Lama.
