TURA: Three armed miscreants kidnapped a cloth trader from Raksamgre village market on Tuesday morning.

The miscreants took the trader, Ranjit Prasad, hailing from Goalpara district’s Lakhipur area of Assam, away at gunpoint shortly after 10am.

Suspicion is on the banned GNLA outfit which is active in the entire Dadenggre sub-division area of west Garo Hills under which falls Raksamgre.

However, police have not ruled out the possibility of involvement of other groups since militant groups from Assam and Garo Hills also have some presence in that area.

The area of Raksamgre is highly remote surrounded by inhospitable terrain and limited roads. It is also a gateway to proceed to Lakhipur in Assam on one side and entry towards Bajengdoba in north Garo Hills on the other. The nearest police station falls in distant Tikrikilla.
