Agartala: Tripura government is awaiting approval from neighbouring Bangladesh for setting up of two border haats (markets), a minister said on Tuesday.
“We are now waiting for approval of Bangladesh government to set up two border haats. After the neighbouring country’s approval comes, two haats would be constructed at Kasba in Sipahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district,” Minister for Industries and Commerce, Jitendra Chowdhury said.
He said, the state government had sent the detailed project report for setting up the haats to the central government which has been sanctioned and added that Rs 25 crore would be spent to construct each haat.
Chowdhury said the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Tripura would be boosted if the haats could be set up and added opening of two border haats in Meghalaya has also boosted trade between the two countries. About the concept of Border haat, chowdhury said, it would be set up on the zero line of the international border where people from both the countries within 5 km radius of the border would sell their local produces.
