Assam Rifles holds Commanders conference

SHILLONG: The two-day Assam Rifles Commanders conference which began at Laitkor on Thursday discussed the security environment in the Northeast, status of operational readiness and the appraisal of operational situation.

The conference is aimed at focusing various issues in the light of prevailing and developing security environment. Among other aspects discussed during the conference included human resource development, improvement in communication.

The conference is being chaired by Lt Gen. Ranbir Singh, Director General, Assam Rifles. All Commanders and senior officers of the Assam Rifles are taking part in the conference.

The other aspects including force modernization, administrative and logistics aspects will also come up for in-depth discussions as part of overall discussions.

In his address, the Director General urged the Assam Rifles personnel to carry out an honest and critical self appraisal for the long term betterment of the force. He also appreciated the efforts of field )commanders and their troops for inducing large scale surrenders of militants in the recent past and thereby enabling the misguided youths to join the national main stream.

He said in its 177 yrs of existence and service to the people of Northeastern states, the Assam Rifles has been able to usher-in normalcy in the Northeastern states.

He also asked the Commanders to be more adaptive while dealing with the civil populace.The conference will conclude on November 16.
