GNLA militant killed in Assam

Goalpara (Assam): A Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces along Assam-Meghalaya border in Assam’s Goalpara district on Thursday.

Acting on specific information about the presence group of about five GNLA militants, the police and army had launched a joint operation in Bamuni Panikhowa village under Krishnai police station of the district when they were fired upon by the militants, police said.

The security forces retaliated and an encounter followed in which the militant was killed while the others escaped.

During search operations, security forces recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, three live ammunitions, two extortion demand drafts and two empty cartridges, the sources added.(PTI)
