FIR filed against MLA

 Agartala: Following persistent pressure from opposition Congress, police have finally registered an FIR against CPM legislator Sankar Prasad Dutta for causing hindrance in police investigation into a firing case.

The case has been lodge at East Agartala police station under section 206/12, a non-bailable section, according to police here on Sunday. However, the accused MLA has not been arrested yet.

To evade arrest, the MLA on Saturday approached the District and Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail but the court declined to hear the plea citing lapse in the proecdure.

However, the court made it clear that it would hear the bail petition of MLA Sankar Prasad Dutta on Monday.

The court has already sought case dairy of a shot-out incident at GB Bazar area on November 12.

The FIR against the ruling party MLA assumes significance keeping in mind of Congress party’s pressure over the past few days.

The PCC delegation headed by MLA Gopal Roy had already met DGP Sanjoy Singh and sought legal action against the CPM MLA.

Besides, Youth Congress also staged agitational programme demanding immediate arrest of the MLA for his misdeeds at a police station.

Sankar Prasad Dutta has allegedly stormed into the police station, threatened the OC with dire consequence and got two detained persons freed from the police custody. The duo was summoned by police for interrogation in connection with a firing incident at GB Bazar area on November 12 sparking a widespread resentment among the people.

CPM state secretary Bijan Dhar had already said, “The party disapproves the role or behavior of MLA Sankar Prasad Dutta. We do hope, the law will take its own course”.
