Water Scarcity is a

common phenomenon in Shillong city and this time, it is the residents of Shillong Cantonment area who are bearing the brunt of this problem.

Residents from the Cantonment area say that the supply of water in the cantonment area for the few weeks is short in comparison to what it is normally.

It is said that the people are now getting water in their water taps for mere 10-15 minutes which is unusual in cantonment areas.

“We don’t know what is wrong as for the last 15 days there has been a reduction in the supply of water,” a resident said.

Though water is supplied once in the morning and once in the evening, it is learnt that the people are still suffering from water scarcity.

Though the present scenario cannot be termed as a complete scarcity as of now but the reduced availability of water throughout the area has been a matter of concern for the residents.

The situation has reached such an extent that one of the families in Jhalupara even had to visits their relative’s house in Mawbah to wash their clothes and take bath.

Water supply normally going scarce during the winter months in Shillong is a common issue.

However, residents also said that the situation has slightly improved since Sunday as now the water is being supplied for a bit longer time.

“We just hope that the situation will be normal soon and we will get adequate water supply like before,” another resident said.

Shillong though known as weltand always has faced the problem of water shortage and many people believe that the lack of water harvesting in the city has led to such a situation where people are still bearing the brunt of water shortage.
