Land handed over for Ri-Bhoi’s first model residential school

 NONGPOH: It was a memorable day for the residents of Myrdon Mawtari village and also the Elaka Myrdon Sirdarship as a whole on Tuesday when a plot of land was handed over to the Joint Director, School Education and Literacy, D Lyngdoh for construction of a residential school, the first of its kind in Ri-Bhoi district.

The Durbar Shnong Myrdon Mawtari handed over the No Objection Certificate (NOC) and a plot of 20 acres of land for construction of the residential school building in the village.

The Durbar Shnong agreed to allot the land to the State Government for the residential model school after being convinced by the Meghalaya Public Grievances Committee Vice Chairman Donlang Sohkhlet that the initiative would benefit the children of the village and also from 11 other villages under the Raid Myrdon Sirdarship in getting quality education and also help to generate employment for the youth within the Raid.

Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Director expressed her sincere thanks to the Durbar Shnong and the Raid for their concern for the future of the children.

“The model school will provide the opportunity to the children of the area who come from disadvantaged background to fulfill their educational aspirations since their parents cannot afford for send them to private schools,” Lyngdoh said.

Donlang Sohkhlet expressed his deep gratitude to the representative of Myrdon Mawtari and the Raid for handing over the plot of land for the benefit of the children.

Others who were present and spoke on the occasion included Superintendent of Engineer of PWD (Buildings) Lambha Suchiang, Elaka Myrdon Sirdar DD Nongphlang and local Rangbah Shnong SW Shadap.
