Assam Gov wants fast seizure of illegal arms in BTC

Guwahati: Governor of Assam, J B Patnaik has ordered the state administration to carry out house to house search operation to seize illegal arms and ammunition available in the violence -hit Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Cuncil (BTC) area in Assam.

The Governor held meeting with the State Chief Secretary N K Das, Additional Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla, DG of Assam Police J N Choudhury and other senior officials of the State to discuss the law and order situation in the communally sensitive BTC area in the wake of recent sporadic incidents of killing despite heavy presence of security personnel.

The Governor has ordered the DGP to conduct house-to-house search operation for recovery of illegal arms available in the BTC area in view of the allegation from various quarters about use of such arms in carrying out violent acts in the area.

The Governor further instructed the State administration to constitute peace committees at village level so that people’s coordination could be elicited in restoring peace in the area that is still being haunted by the spell of communal riot between Bodos and immigrant Muslims in July this year.

The Governor wants that at atmosphere of peace must prevail in the BTC at this time of the year to allow people to harvest their paddy crop which is the only source of livelihood for majority of the people in the area.
