SHILLONG: The KSU and CSWO have taken a strong cognizance over the reports that a huge chunk of land along Shilliang Umkhen near Mawdiangdiang belonging to the Raid are illegally being sold to various businessmen and company including Government.

“The selling of the land belonging to the Raid by certain vested interest is totally illegal considering the fact is that no one is authorized to sell the land belonging to the Raid since it is a community land,” KSU Mawryngkneng Circle president Wanlambok Kharsati told reporters here on Friday.

According to Kharsati, thousand acres of land have already been illegally sold to the State Government, senior government officials, company and businessman. While there has been a claim that the selling of these lands is for the sake of development and progress, the KSU leader said that they would not accept such kind of justification since large number of poor villagers residing in the area has been displaced on account of this illegal transaction. Stating that there is an attempt on the part of the Government to purchase around 3000 acres of land in the area, he said that they would protest any attempt to sell such a large chunk of land to the Government since it would lead to the displacement of a large number of villagers.

Meanwhile, Kharsati informed that they would lodge a complaint against this rampant selling of land before the District Council and other authorities.
