SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has order an inquiry into the recent killing of a non-tribal labourer and subsequent arrest of two of its members. Informing this here on Saturday, the students’ body chief Daniel Khyriem said it had deputed some of its members to conduct an inquiry into the incident. “Once the report is submitted, we will take a decision on the future course of action,” he said. “We will soon have a meeting and till then we cannot say anything,” Khyriem added. The State police have arrested two KSU members and a cab driver for their alleged involvement in the murder of one non-local labourer and in abduction two others in Mawiong on Tuesday. According to police, five KSU members assaulted three construction workers after they failed to produce any document pertaining to their citizenship.

The arrested persons have been identified as KSU’s Mawiong unit vice-president Banker Nongkseh (21) alias ‘Heprit’, KSU’s Nongkwar unit finance secretary, Anthony Warbah alias ‘Bahhep’ and driver T Marngar. Another two members of the KSU involved in the incident — Mawiong unit president Damuyan Skhemiew and Nongkwar unit general secretary Wansit Thangkhiew — are yet to be arrested.
