SHILLONG: Despite the Centre’s nod for a permanent High Court in Shillong, there is likely to be further delay in setting up the full-fledged High Court as appointment of the Judges and other staff are yet to take place. The State Government has written to the Centre for the appointment of a Chief Justice and five other Judges, but the Government is yet to get any feedback, an official source said on Tuesday. Due to lack requisite number of judicial officers, the separation of judiciary and executive could not be extended beyond East Khasi Hills.

The government has also written to other remaining districts to initiate the separation of Judiciary from the Executive.

An official source on Tuesday said that though infrastructure is ready as the current Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court can be used as permanent building for the court proceedings, huge fund is required for the appointment of Judges and other judicial staff for the smooth running of the High Court .
