Dempo trounce Mohun Bagan

Margao: Dempo secured their sixth win in the current season of the I-League with a 3-0 victory over Mohun Bagan here on Wednesday.

It was Karim Bencherifa’s first defeat after he retook charge of Bagan recently.

Joaquim Abranches and Ryuji Sueoka scored the two first half goals for Dempo in the 40th and 45th minute respectively, while Godwin Franco scored in the 70th minute to complete the three-goal tally after Mohun Bagan were reduced to 10 men when Biswajit Saha was sent off in the 53rd minute.

In the day’s other matches, Churchill Brothers beat Prayag United 2-1 away despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Israil Gurung (26th) and Bikramjeet Singh (70th) scored for Churchill before Beto was sent off following his second booking.

Prayag pulled one back through Bello Rasaq’s 89th minute strike, but could not match their opponents.

Mumbai also tasted victory, overcoming ONGC 1-0. (UNI)
