Rotary awards
The Rotary Club of Shillong presented the annual Vocational Awards 2012 on Tuesday. Recipients of the awards included Dr GM Rangad, Surgeon, Fr Sebastian of Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, BK Sohliya of the Horticulture department and Professor Debasish Chowdhury , Principal of Women’s College.
Unclaimed body
An unidentified male, who was found lying in a dustbin at Motphan on November 4 and was admitted at the Shillong Civil Hospital, expired on November 26. The body has been kept at the Hospital morgue for identification.
BJP reaction
The BJP Meghalaya Unit on Thursday said Vijay Raj, Sanjay Biswa and SP Rai, who had resigned from the party recently, had not renewed their primary membership since 2009. The party said that their membership was not recorded in the party enrolment register in BJP Office and so their resignation has no meaning.
LPG connections
The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), West Garo Hills issued a notification stating that booking of cylinders can be done only after 15 days of the last refueling date. Only six subsidized cylinders will be available to a consumer within a financial year (April-March) and multiple connections by one consumer under aliases and change of addresses will not be allowed. Consumers having multiple connections have been directed to surrender the extra connection.
Disability Day
The District Social Welfare department in collaboration with the SSA of East Khasi Hills, state resource centre, civil hospital, Bansara Eye care centre and partner NGOs will observe the World Disability Day 2012 on December 3 at Nongmadan, Smit from 10am onwards.
Seminar
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Shillong and the La-Riti Foundation will organise a seminar on ‘Prominent composers of the region’ cum exhibition sale of traditional items produced by La-Riti (Physically challenged: speech and hearing sound) and books published by Ri Khasi Book Agency on December 4 and 5 at Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar from 10 am onwards.
