Itanagar: In persuasion of the initiative taken by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J J Singh, the Army has agreed in principle to accept Domicile Certificates as valid residence proof during the Army recruitment rallies to be held in the state in future.

This consideration is only for the non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe residents settled in the state for long period and will not affect the reservation quota for the scheduled tribes of the state, official sources informed here on Saturday.

Continuously pursuing for welfare of every individual living in the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh particularly those coming from different parts of the country and serving in the state, the Governor took up the matter with the Army Chief recently, who reciprocated positively.

In his letter, the Governor pointed out that as per state government policy, no PRC is issued to non-APST residents.

As a result, the non-APST residents of the state, settled here since long, were not accepted by the Army and the vacancies under general quota went unavailed and were diverted to other states of the country, sources said. (PTI)
