SHILLONG: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has stated that food grains and free flowing sugar stocks are issued by the FCI under the PDS after proper inspection of stocks by the nominated officer of the State.

The FCI was referring to the recent allegation stating that the corporation is supplying putrid and rotten food items for delivery to the respective PDS wholesalers and the beneficiaries without any checking.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, FCI area manager K Tonsing said, “Due to heavy arrivals of food grains and sugar in rakes at railway some quantity of partly wet sugar was also received in transit and it was segregated and stored separately.”

“This stock cannot be stored outside the godown,” he said.

CSWO president who had inspected the FCI godown on Friday had said that around 30 sacks of bad sugar have been delivered together with the good ones and people are forced to accept both the bad and good ones.

According to Tonsing, the contention that 30 sacks of bad sugar are delivered together with the good ones is not correct.

The FCI while giving details of the food grains issued to under PDS to State Government during October and November informed that 6594 metric tonnes (MT) of rice was supplied in October while 6597 MT was supplied in November.

CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing however stated that she will write a report to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to seek its intervention and to constitute an inquiry into the matter.
