Agartala: Tripura Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury alleged insurgents of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have been receiving full support from the Mizoram government.

Chowdhury, while talking to reporters at Civil Secretariat here on Saturday said NLFT insurgents have been gaining full support in the neighbouring state to launch subversive activities in the state prior to the Assembly election.

“Intelligence inputs also indicate growing ground of NLFT in Mizoram and the Central government was accordingly informed about the latest development”, he said. Chowdhury, who visited various areas of Kanchanpur adjacent to Mizoram further alleged the NLFT with the active support of Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla has been trying to rerun what it had done in 1988 Assembly elections.

“Everybody knows, the Congress-TUJS stormed back to power in 1988 riding on the deep rooted conspiracy against the Left Front”, he said.

Sharing his experience after touring different areas of Kanchanpur including Damcherrra, Bhandarima and Khedacherra of North district, Chowdhury said people have stopped giving support to militants. Even insurgents are finding it difficult to move around bordering areas following proactive role taken by the security forces.

According to intelligence inputs, NLFT insurgents have been using a route passing through a border village of Mizoram to enter Myanmar. In fact, self styled vice president of Utpal Debbarma was nabbed along Tripura-Mizoram border last year. During interrogation, he confessed he used Mizoram soil to enter Kanchanpur area of North Tripura.

Sensing trouble, Dy Election Commissioner Vinay Justhi during his visited to the poll bound state hinted at sealing the border areas well before the Assembly election. The measure will be taken to prevent any intrusion attempt from across the border.
