SHILLONG: The chief electoral officer P Naik on Tuesday cleared doubts over the validity of EPICs issued on 2007 as raised by the Lok Janshakti Party.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Naik said once issued, the EPIC is valid irrespective of the year of the release of the EPICs .
“The basic purpose of EPIC is the identification of voters and if anyone uses the EPIC for any other identification purpose, there is no objection”, Naik said.
According to Naik, EPIC is not at all classified according to years as all the EPICs are valid and their numbers remain the same. He also said that those who have lost the EPICs can also apply to get the duplicates.
Registration hurdle
The online voter registration has hit hurdles with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) server malfunctioning on frequent intervals in the past.
Concerned over the matter, the chief electoral officer has decided to convene a meeting with the concerned officials to rectify the problem. “If the server is down, we are committed to rectify the technical snag, Naik added.
