Agartala: To ensure the value addition to raw bamboo, Mutha Industry Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai based company has come up with an ambitious plan to produce bamboo made tiles in Tripura.

Initially, the bamboo based industrial unit would be set up in a 9.65 acre land, in the proposed Bamboo Park at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate, with an estimated cost of Rs. 50 crore.

Different types of tiles made of raw bamboo will be produced in the industrial unit using China made equipments, said Anil Mutha, owner of Mutha Industry Pvt Ltd.

“A plan to set up the bamboo based industrial unit has been mulled after considering the growing demand for bamboo made tiles and availability of raw bamboo”, he said.

According to Mutha, the industrial unit is expected to absorb at least 100 youths. Experts from China will come down here to impart training on how to handle machineries in order to make bamboo made tiles.

On December 3, the foundation stone for the Rs. 50 crore has been laid in the proposed bamboo park. The Bamboo Park, the first in the country, is expected to come up early next year.

The state government had established a full-fledged Bamboo Park about a year back, though formal inauguration is yet to be made. Initially, land measuring 65 acres has been earmarked for the park and later another plot measuring 36 acres has also been included.

The aim of setting up such a park is to ensure the value addition to raw bamboo locally, since Tripura still deprives of its due share of profit from bamboo based industries due lack of value addition.

To tap the full potential of bamboo based products, the government has been encouraging people for bamboo plantation. Those who have got pattas under the Forest Dwellers’ Right Act have been given necessary help to raise bamboo cultivation in areas like Jirania, Mandwai and Lefunga.

Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Corporation Ltd (TIDC) Pabitra Kar was visibly upbeat over the Rs. 50 crore investment at the proposed Bamboo Park. “We are happy to make an investment in the Bamboo Park even before the formal inauguration. Besides building necessary infrastructure, one administrative building and a rest house will also be built at Bamboo Park”, he added.
