Smugglers nabbed

BSF troops of Jatrakona, South Garo Hills apprehended two smugglers Suman Ali (25) of Bangladesh and Samuel Haque (39) of India while they were trying to exfiltrate to the neighbouring country.

Awareness prog

In pursuance of the ‘Safe-Secure-Shillong’ initiative, the Shillong Police, in an attempt to reach out to the youths, is organizing an awareness campaign at St. Edmund’s College on December 7 from 2pm.

Lok Adalat

The Lok Adalat for the courts of districts and session judge and all subordinate courts will be held at the District Courts Complex on December 8 from 10 am.

Arts workshop

The Directorate of Arts and Culture will organise a creative arts workshop titled ‘Sung Valley Earth’ in connection with the Year of the Youth celebration on December 10 at 11 am at the Arts and Culture Hall, State Central Library.

Candidature

David H Marwein has withdrawn his application for the Congress ticket from Nongstoin constituency as he is undergoing treatment due to his illness, a statement said.

Cleaning drive

The Dorbar Shnong Nongmynsong will organise a cleaning drive on December 10 from 8am onwards.

The Lachumiere Dorbar will organise a cleaning drive on December 8 from 8am onwards. All shops, offices in the respective localities have been asked to remain closed till 12.30pm for cleaning drives.

Literacy classes

Chief Justice of India Justice Altamas Kabir, also the chief-in-patron of the National Legal Service Authority, will launch the legal literacy classes’ scheme on December 8 at Yojana Bhavan at 10am.

Peace march

Tibetan youths guided by the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Shillong will embark on a peace march from Shillong to Guwahati on December 7. The march will be flagged off from Mawbah at 8am.

Workshop

The Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship, under the aegis of the Meghalaya Basin Development, is organising a one-day workshop on Business diversification conclave 2012 for contractors and entrepreneurs on December 7 at Hotel Pegasus Crown from 10am onwards. Chief Secretary WMS Pariat will be the chief guest.

Meeting

The Meghalaya Peoples’ United Front will organise a public meeting on December 8 from 11am at the MTC campus at Iawmusiang, Jowai to discuss matters relating to cement companies and others operating in Jaintia Hills.
