7 ANVC(B) rebels arrested

SHILLONG: Twelve days after the ANVC (B) militants ‘attacked’ the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Deborah Marak at Rongbinggre, the State police on Thursday arrested seven militants involved in the attack.

Police sources informed that the seven ANVC(B) cadres were arrested at Rongjeng while they were traveling in a vehicle (ML 07-8927).

The arrested militants are identified as Singbirth N Marak alias Tengton of Sampalgre, Sengnang N Marak of Chiokgre, Noresh D Sangma alias Simpu of Sampalgre, Walma N Marak of Kaldang, Marsan K Marak of Kaldang, Eggnil T Sangma of Chisobibra and Jetil Marak of Nengkra.

The police sources informed that the interrogation of the arrested militants is on.

The ANVC(B) cadres had a series of argument with Marak and gheraoed her when she went to attend a meeting in Rongbinggre on November 24. After the exchange of words and intimidation, the militants fired in the air which created panic compelling people came to attend a meeting and Marak to run helter-skelter. The MPCC working president sustained serious injuries on her knees when she fell down while running for safety.

These cadres are also involved in the firing at Williamnagar market in which one businessman was injured.

They are also involved in the firing incident at Nongalbibra market in which a civilian was killed.
