Sohiong Sub-Post Office becomes a reality

 Shillong: The Meghalaya Minister for Home, PWD (R) etc., H D R Lyngdoh on Saturday, inaugurated the Sohiong Sub-Post Office at Sohiong, East Khasi Hills in the presence of L Blah, MDC, Rasor Rani, MDC of Mairang, the Superintendent of Post Office, Meghalaya Division, R Padmanavan and other dignitaries.

It may be mentioned that the Post Office at Sohiong was first inaugurated on January 25, 1971 and is operating as a branch under the Mairang Sub Post Office and the Mawphlang Post Office thereafter. After 40 years of aspirations of the people of the area to get easy access to the services of the Post Office, the Sub Post Office has now become a reality.

In his speech, Lyngdoh said that having a Sub Post Office has long been desired by the people of the area especially the youth who seek employment because of delayed arrival of calling letters and others.

But now, with the upgradation of the Branch Post Office to the Sub Post Office, the youth and the people of the area in general will greatly benefit because it can deliver timely and effective service for the people of the area.

Therefore, he called upon the public to make good use of this post office and obtain all the facilities and benefits it offers.

According to the Superintendent of Post Office, the post office was first started only for conveyance of letters but now, the people can have a number of services like internet facility, e-post, e-payment, speed post, express parcel post and others which will greatly benefit the people of the area.

He also informed about the number of schemes available with the office like Rural Postal Insurance and Post Office Savings where the people especially the BPL families can get maximum benefit.

Therefore, he called upon the people to utilize the post office and the services rendered for the overall development.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Mi. L Blah, MDC, Rasor Rani, MDC of Mairang, the Superintendent of Post Office, Meghalaya Division, R Padmanavan who delivered the welcome address and B L Blah, Lyngdoh, Hima Sohiong.
