SHILLONG: With the last session of the 8th Assembly starting on Tuesday, there are various grievances raised by the legislators from both the Ruling side and the Opposition.

The Winter Session of the Assembly will be held for three days.

Paul Lyngdoh, working president of the UDP, a coalition partner of the Congress-led MUA government, on Sunday informed that though he had submitted a motion to discuss the CBI report on the anomalies in the appointment of teachers, this was disallowed by the Speaker Charles Pyngrope.

Lyngdoh also said he wanted to move a resolution to have a strong Lokayukta Act to check corruption, but this was also rejected by the Speaker.

Moreover, taking strong note of the short duration of the upcoming Winter Session of the Assembly, the Leader of Opposition, Conrad Sangma, has accused the State Government of running away from its responsibility.

“It is sad that that the Session has been called for three days and this shows that the Government is trying to run away from their responsibility,” Conrad said.

According to Sangma, the short duration of the Assembly would not allow the Opposition to take up the different issues concerning the State.

It may be mentioned that earlier too the Government had received flak from the Opposition for conducting short sessions of the Assembly.

Reacting to a query on the issues which the Opposition plans to take up, Sangma said that the Opposition will take up the entire issue of the recent Education department scam in a different way and the deteriorating law and order situation of the State.

“If time permits we would also raise the issues of deteriorating road condition in the State and especially the capital city,” he said.

The last Assembly session of the five year tenure would miss the participation of veteran leader Purno Sangma who resigned from his Tura Assembly seat to contest the Presidential polls.

The House would also miss late NCP legislator Mason Singh Sangma who passed away in September last.
