SHILLONG: With pressure mounting on the Congress-led MUA Government to have an effective system to check corruption in high places, the Cabinet will meet on Tuesday to discuss the need to have a strong Lokayukta Act in the State.

An official source said on Monday that the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has convened the Cabinet meet to explore the ways and means to strengthen the Lokayukta Act in view of protest from pressure groups. Though the Lokayukta Act was passed in 2002, the NGOs have exposed loopholes in the Act.

Sit-in demo: Meanwhile, expressing their disappointment on the lack of commitment on the part of the Government to bring about a stronger Lokayukta Act in the State, the 19 NGOs would be holding a sit-in protest at the parking lot near Additional Secretariat during the three days Winter Assembly session starting from Tuesday.
