SHILLONG: In view of the upcoming Assembly election in Meghalaya, the Border Security Force (BSF) has strengthened its vigil along the Indo-Bangla border.
BSF PRO Ravi Gandhi on Wednesday said that the force has strengthened its deployment along the border to prevent any untoward incident during the election.
With elections slated for February-March next, activities of militant outfits in Garo Hills seems to be on the rise and the BSF is taking precautions to ensure that militants hiding in Bangladesh do not cross over to India, Gandhi said.
According to Gandhi, senior BSF officers have been deployed along the Indo-Bangla border and mobilization of forces is going on.
“We want to ensure that the borders are properly guarded and we are taking all measures for it,” he said.
It may be mentioned that altogether 443 kilometers of Indo-Bangla border within the Meghalaya sector is manned by nine battalions of BSF.
