SHILLONG: Two constables were arrested on Wednesday on separate charges of attempted rape and molestation.

In the first incident, an armed branch constable Appu Pathaw of East Khasi Hills was arrested for attempting to rape a woman (28) at Golf Links while she was on her way from NEHU to Jingkieng Nongthymmai on Wednesday shortly after midnight.

In the second case, head constable Harish Singh of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) based here was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman at Khyndai Lad on Wednesday.

Referring to the first case, police said that Pathaw was travelling in a car and stopped the vehicle after seeing the woman on the road and subsequently took her to his house with an intention to commit the crime.

Police also informed that the accused was arrested after a complaint was lodged by the woman. The identity of the accused was revealed only after investigation.

Pathaw was in the news recently after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his SLR rifle on September 26. The constable was posted as a security guard at the State Bank of India (Main Branch), Shillong.
