Compensation to be paid on Dec 20

 SHILLONG: A day after land owners staged a protest near Mawryngkneng demanding compensation for their land used for constructing the Shillong By pass, the State Government dispatched a letter to the aggrieved farmers, promising to pay their dues on December 20.

Confirming this here on Thursday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sanjay Goyal said the compensation, amounting to Rs 89 lakh, is being paid for the crops that were destroyed while implementing the project adding that the money for land acquisition has already been paid. The KSU Mawryngkneng unit, vice president, Mediton Lamare also confirmed that the affected villagers have received a letter from the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills whereby they have been asked to collect the compensation amount from the DC’s office on December 20.
