SHILLONG: The State Assembly was adjourned twice on Thursday due to lack of quorum.

The absence of majority of the members meant that the Opposition lost a golden opportunity to raise several important issues in the House.

Following this, the session which began on Monday with the Government business will conclude with the same at 12 pm on Friday.

Thursday was the only day allotted for the private members business. But when ECB Bamon (NCP) began to move a motion on the loopholes in the Meghalaya Mines and Mineral Policy, 2012, he could not proceed further due to lack of quorum of at least 10 per cent of the total strength of the legislators in the House.

Metbah Lyngdoh, who was in the chair, adjourned the House for 20 minutes. When the House reassembled 20 minutes later, there were not many members present in the House which compelled the Speaker Charles Pyngrope, who assumed chair, to adjourn the House for the day.

The NCP legislator James Sangma urged the Speaker to wait by saying that the members were coming, but in vain.

Besides the motion on the Mineral Policy moved by Bamon, there were three more pending motions which lapsed on Thursday. They include the law and order situation in Meghalaya to be taken up by the Leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma and the inter- state boundary dispute with Assam and the issues concerning the primary schools put forward by HS Lyngdoh (HSPDP)
