SHILLONG: Education Minister Prof RC Laloo said that the Government plans to release the salaries of the lecturers of the Government colleges before this Christmas.

While informing that the lecturers of the Baghmara, Williamnagar and Sohra Government colleges are yet to receive their salaries for the past four months, Prof Laloo informed that the reason for the delay in release of the salaries was due to some procedural requirements.

“Majority of the lectures in these three Government colleges have been appointed under 3 (f) of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission Regulation, 1972,” Laloo said during the Question Hour in the Assembly here on Friday.

Earlier, NCP legislator Marcuise N Marak urged the Government to speed up the process in releasing the salaries of the lecturers.

While replying to another question raised by the NCP legislator, Prof Laloo said that the Government has appointed Prof (Ms) D Mawthoh as the new principal of the Williamnagar Government College on December 5.

He said that the new principal has been to take over the administration of the college within 15 days from the date of appointment.
