Bangalore: Continuing with the goodwill exchange programme the Governments of Karnataka and Meghalaya had initiated in wake of large-scale exodus of people from southern cities after the Kokrajhar violence and subsequent rumours, Karnataka Government is hosting a high-level goodwill delegation from Meghalaya.

A high-profile cultural programme showcasing the cultural and traditional heritage of Meghalaya will be held at city’s Ravindra Kalakchetra, J C Road on December 16.

Meghalaya Minister for Information and Public Relations (IPR) Abu Taher Mondal along with Director, IPR Meghalaya H M Shangpliang are arriving in the city on Saturday.

Mondal said “this is the Meghalaya’s unique initiative and will go a long way in fostering inter-cultural harmony and national integration. We thank the Karnataka government for their support.”

Commenting on the programme, Shangpliang said ‘this programme will create a sense of brotherhood and communal harmony. We are certain this unique initiative, first of its kind in the country, shall not only enhance sense of camaraderie among people from Karnataka and Meghalaya but also instill larger sense of national integration.’

Post the mass exodus of people of the North East states earlier this year, a goodwill mission was constituted by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.
