New Delhi: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly might have rejected an adjournment motion on the school teachers’ appointment scam involving Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, but the same was raised in Parliament with Union Minister of State Human Resources Development, Dr Shashi Tharoor, giving a reply on Friday.

The matter was raised by the lone Rajya Sabha member from Meghalaya, Thomas Sangma, who wanted to know the latest about the CBI probe and action taken by the Government so far. He also wanted to know whether an FIR has been lodged against all those named in the CBI report for the irregularities.

Replying to Sangma, Dr Tharoor said that the Centre has received information from the Meghalaya Government that the CBI had conducted an inquiry into the recruitment of assistant teachers in Government Schools.

The State Government has notified a high level scrutiny committee on October 12 as per the direction of the Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, State Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope had disallowed an adjournment motion on the issue proposed by the Opposition Leader Conrad Sangma. The Speaker had rejected the adjournment motion on ground of technicalities but had stated that the Member can raise the matter through other means.
