SHILLONG: A glimpse of the growing relationship between India and Vietnam was witnessed in the city on Friday when a cultural dance troupe from Vietnam–Vietnam National Music Song and Dancer’s theatre enthralled the audience with their dance forms at Raj Bhavan.

From birds soaring in the skies to Vietnamese farmers toiling in the farm, the dancers alongside their traditional music filled the air of the dorbar hall at Raj Bhavan with music, quite unheard of in the state. Besides their dance forms and cultural display, the troupe provided the audience a glimpse into the culture and society of the Vietnamese. Amalgamating the music of the two countries, a Vietnamese musician performed on a Bollywood track from the movie “Sajan Chalay Sasural” simply by the use of his traditional instrument, a melody which left the audience in awe. Applauding the performance of the cultural troops from Vietnam, Governor RS Mooshahary said that the South Asian countries share a lot of similarities with North east India and the government’s look east policy hold importance for a sustainable and friendly future together. “India and Vietnamese relationship is growing and initiatives like these will help strengthen the ties”, he stated. Later during the programme the cultural troupe was also felicitated by the Governor and Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma. The programme was organised by the Indian council for cultural relations in collaboration with department of art and culture.
