SHILLONG: The magisterial inquiry panel, probing the alleged irregularities in the Shillong district jail, is yet to submit the report to the State government as it is still waiting to get a statement from Kulbir Krishan, who is holding the dual charge of DG — police and prisons.
Due to this deadline for submission of the report, which was originally November 20, has been extended, sources said on Saturday.
When contacted, Krishan admitted he has not given any statement yet. “With all the police work going on, it has been difficult to look at other issues”, Krishan said.
The inquiry headed by East Khasi Hills additional district magistrate, DM Wahlang was constituted by the state government on October 3 with a mandate to inquire into the complaints of alleged financial irregularities in the district jail and to assess the extent of such irregularities and fix responsibility if any for the same. The terms of reference of the inquiry also include to identify if there was any nexus between jail staff and the high security prisoners including GNLA chief Champion Sangma.
Soon after the detection of financial irregularities, the jail staff went on a strike demanding removal of Krishan.
