SHILLONG: UDP’s Jaiaw legislator Paul Lyngdoh has castigated the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) secretary in-charge of Meghalaya Poonam Rani Wangkhem for her allegation of intimidation in Shillong West constituency terming it a as ‘bad joke’.

Lyngdoh said that such remarks unnecessarily portray the city police in bad light. The UDP working president also questioned that who are the victims of this alleged intimidation and whether any specific complaint had been lodged with the police regarding the same.

“Is the Congress leader confusing Meghalaya with other States in the North East as often happens with the election tourist from Delhi?, Lyngdoh said while adding that even in 2009, a Congress observer congratulated HDR Lyngdoh after the Umroi bye polls mistaking him for Stanly Wis Rymbai.

Earlier on Sunday, Wangkhem condemned those who were trying to threaten people against casting their vote in favour of Congress candidate Mohindro Rapsang for the 18-Shillong West Constituency.

“I have got information that there are people who are trying to use muscle power to win the election. They are using some rouge elements to threaten the voters of the 18-Shillong West Constituency,” Wangkhem said while addressing a public meeting of the Mahila Congress members of the Shillong 18-West Block Congress Committee (SBCC) here on Sunday.

While urging the Mahila members and Congress supporters not to be afraid of these rouge elements, the AIMC secretary asked the voters to cast their votes without any fear or pressure.
