PIL on land deal

SHILLONG: A group of NGOs on Monday filed a PIL in the Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court opposing the State government’s decision to allot land to Civil Service Officers at Rs 1 per square feet. The PIL was moved by HNYF, CSWO, FKJGP, Mait Shaphrang Movement and Freedom Project. A report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India of March 31, 2011 had revealed that, “Unauthorised allotment of land to the Civil Service Officers Housing Cooperative Society Limited and incorrect fixation of premium at a lower rate, resulted in undue financial benefit of Rs 78.42 lakh to the society, besides allotment of land in excess of the prescribed limit.”
