SHILLONG: The State Police will seek the help of BSF to get the custody of GNLA foreign secretary Briansim Marak alias Bikdot Nikjang, who was arrested in Bangladesh on Saturday.

Nikjang had earlier functioned as political and publicity secretary of GNLA and has been camping in Bangladesh for last several years.

The Bangladesh police arrested Nikjang from Madhupur, a sub division of Tangail district of Bangladesh.

Madhupur has a lot of forest area, which is conducive for militants as they can use it as their hideouts.

A police official said that Nikjang is now in judicial custody and added that efforts would be made to hand over the militant leader through the BSF.

Earlier in July this year, Bangladesh border guards had handed over GNLA chairman Champion Sangma to the BSF and subsequently he landed up in police custody.

When contacted, a BSF official said that the matter has been taken up with the Bangladeshi counterparts and added that there is no confirmation as yet at the moment.
