Guwahati: The Assam State Election Commission has fixed the maximum limit of expenditure to be incurred by any candidate contesting the upcoming panchayat polls in the state. The maximum expenditure limit for a candidate contesting for the post of Zila Parishad member has been fixed at Rs four lakh, an official statement said on Wednesday.
For elections to the post of Anchalik Panchayat member, the maximum expenditure a candidate can incur is Rs one lakh.
Similarly, Rs one lakh has been fixed as the maximum limit for candidates for the post of Gaon Panchayat president.
For those contesting for the post of Gaon Panchayat member, the ceiling has been fixed at Rs 10,000.
The candidates contesting the election have to submit the statement of expenditures to the State Election Commission through the DC or SDO within 60 days from the date of declaration of results. Any violation or non-submission of expenditure statement on time will attract legal action, the statement said. (PTI)
