Admin grants Rs 25,000 to Williamnagar rape victim

 TURA: Gaining much appreciation of many NGOs of Garo Hills, the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, BK Mantri has granted Rs 25,000 as interim relief to the Williamnagar gang-rape victim. Mantri visited the girl, who was recently raped during the Williamnagar ‘Simsang Festival’ at the hospital where she is undergoing treatment nd handed over the cash.

Informing this, Mrs Lalnunthari D Shira, Secretary of GHSHR and Vice Chairman of PMDR expressed her immense appreciation for the East Garo Hills District administration for granting the relief to the victim.

Referring to the case of Risa G Momin, a four-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in August, 2002 at Tura, West Garo Hills, Mrs Shira said that till date the family of Risa G Momin has not been given any kind of relief, compensation or ex-gratia. She informed that, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has assured them that more funds would be granted to the Williamnagar rape victim once the chargesheet of the case is prepared.
