SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who has been named in the education scam unearthed by the CBI, claims that the recent controversy would have no effect on her electoral fortunes.
Lyngdoh, the sitting Laitumkhrah legislator, sounded confident of winning the upcoming Assembly election and said, “I have no fear for something which I have not done.”
Talking to The Shillong Times here on Saturday, Lyngdoh said she was ready to accept whatever mandate people give.
“Ball is now in people’s court,” Lyngdoh, who came under severe criticism after the CBI unearthed scam in which she was accused of orchestrating large-scale irregularities in the appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools.
It may be mentioned that several organizations have demanded the resignation of the minister soon after the scam came to light.
On the possibility of her political opponents using education scam during the campaign to nail her, the Minister said, “It does not matter to me what issue they will raise against me as people will decide whom they want as their representative in the Assembly.”
It may be mentioned Laitumkhrah is all set to witness a direct contest between the Congress leader and UDP veteran and Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong.
When asked about her agendas for the upcoming elections, the minister said, ” I will try to ensure that every lane and street has easy access and connectivity.
