SHILLONG: There is criticism over the creation of the Sohiong outpost by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh in his own constituency since the demand to have outposts in other sensitive border and militancy affected areas remains neglected.

During the just concluded Assembly session, Lyngdoh had come under fire for refusing to set up a police outpost at Psiar bordering Jaintia Hills and Karbi Anglong where the people of the area are facing threat of militants.

The matter was raised by NCP legislator ECB Bamon.

A senior legislator said on Sunday that it is an irony that a peaceful place like Sohiong is getting an outpost whereas difficult areas in the border are neglected.

“With the upcoming elections, the Home Minister should have given priority to set up police outposts in the border areas and also in militancy affected places in the State,” he added.
