SHILLONG: The State Police on Saturday submitted the report of the Williamnagar gang-rape case to the State Government for further action on its part.

Informing this here on Sunday, Director General of Police (DGP) Kulbir Krishan said, “The report was forwarded to the State Government yesterday (Saturday) for further proceedings on its part.”

When asked whether the case has been forwarded to the Fast Track Court, Krishan said that due to the absence of such a court in Williamnagar, the State Police have requested the district administration of East Garo Hills to conduct the trial every week considering the seriousness of the case.

He reiterated that police have built a strong case and have recorded the statement of the girl and also the two people who were with the victim at the time of the incident.

He also expressed confidence that there is no escape route for the accused.

Police have so far arrested 15 out of the 16 accused in the gang-rape whose ages range from 13 to 20 years.

It was on December 13 when 16 persons gang-raped an 18-year-old girl who was returning home after attending the Simsang Festival.
