Suicide

SHILLONG: The body of a woman was recovered from Umkhen River at Mawpdang, East Khasi Hills on December 27 at around 4:30 pm and the police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Patricia Lyngdoh (28) and it was learnt that she was reported missing from her residence in Mawpdang since December 9.

According to the police, the deceased was mentally unsound and this is not the first time that she was reported missing from home.

“The family members themselves have admitted that she (deceased) was mentally unsound and she died probably by jumping off a cliff as her body was found at the foot end of a cliff”, a senior police official said here on Friday.

The police official has ruled out any foul play.

Extortion

On December 26, one Jones Syiemlieh (36) demanded Rs. 65,000 from one John Bosco Mawlong, a Traditional Medicine Practitioner at Kynshi (WKH) and also threatened him with dire consequences. Later, he was apprehended by the local villagers and they recovered one Khukri, one knife, twelve arrows, and one bottle of petrol, two cell-phones, torch light, note book & a diary from his possession.

Molestation

A woman (25) lodged a complaint at Williamnagar Women PS that on December 25 at around 5.30 pm, two persons, Sarwan Sharma and Laxman Singh Sekhwat molested her at Warimagre Road (EGH). Police arrested one of the accused, Laxman Singh Sekhwat.

River poisoning

On December 24 at around 7.30 pm, VDP Members of Amlanai village apprehended four persons, Jail Mylliem, Tran Khngiong, Rin Khai and Asu Tongper while they were poisoning fishes at Wahlynliang and Wahamsohrhong river at Amlanai (WJH).

Theft

One Md. Riffikul Rahaman lodged a complaint Mendipathar PS that on December 23 at around 9 am, while he along with two others, Summul Ali and Md. Nakiban Rahaman were travelling in a vehicle (ML-07A-2291) from Krishnai towards Pathargittim, seven unidentified armed miscreants looted Rs. 10,35,000/- from them at Wageasi (NGH).
