Kohima: The Nagaland Congress party has started gearing up for the next Assembly elections in the state, likely to be held in the last week of February next.
According to Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) sources on Friday, president S I Jamir has directed all grassroot level units to prepare themselves for the coming Assembly elections, to be held along with Meghalaya and Tripura. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP), also a part of the Joint Legislatures Forum (JLF), comprising all the 60 MLAs of Nagaland Assembly, was formed to facilitate the ongoing peace process.
It had recently gone to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and urged them to find an alternative arrangement of the Naga political problem before the elections. Meanwhile, the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF)-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) was also gearing up election preparations. The Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries had started appealing to the people to strengthen the hand of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rioand by supporting the NPF for the overall development in the state.
NPF president and Minister for Urban Development and Higher and Technical Education Shurhozelie was also busy preparing strategies for the elections along with the Executive Committee members, according to sources.
The other political parties like BJP, NCP, RJD and JD (U) were also gearing up their activities for the elections. (UNI)
