Morigaon: Normal life was affected in four districts of Assam following a 24-hour bandh called in the areas by the All Tiwa Students Union (ATSU) from 5 am today demanding immediate election in six Tiwa Autonomous Council constituencies in Kamrup (Metro) district.

Of the four districts, the impact of the bandh call was thumping in Morigaon district only. The other three districts — Nagaon, Karbi Anglong an Dimasao – the bandh had partial effect on life, official source said.

Mostly in Morigaon district, shops, business establishments and banks remained closed, while vehicles kept off the roads and National Highway 37, the sources said.

The day being a fourth Saturday of the month, state and central government offices remained closed, while educational institutions are on winter vacation. However, the Hindustan Paper Corporation Mill at Jagiroad was functioning normally with CISF personnel escorting the employees to their work place. (PTI)
