Agartala: The AICC is likely to declare party contenders for 2013 Assembly election in Tripura on January 4 next, according to sources.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi headed committee had already forwarded the short-listed names of party candidates before the Central Election Committee (CEC) for taking final decision.
The CEC looks set to hold meeting to finalize party candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections on January 3 next.
Soon after the finalization of names of candidates, the AICC will declare the list paving the way for high voltage election campaign well before the election sets on motion.
The move to declare party candidates well before the election is aimed to give enough time to party aspirants for campaign.
As reported by Tripura Times, all the sitting MLAs look set to get tickets this time while some old warhorses will be denied of ticket.
However, senior leaders like Samir Ranjan Barman and Ratan Chakraborty are all set to contest the ensuing election on Congress ticket. In the candidates’ list, the screening committee has given due importance to young leaders as part of revamping of leadership.
Source said, two youth leaders- Sushanta Chowdhury, YC Congress state unit present and Jaydani Tripura are expected to get tickets. However, Rajib Satap, All India president of Youth Congress president has given a list of five YC leaders to Gogoi requesting him to give tickets to them.
However, the scrutiny committee recommended only two names- Sushanta and Jaydani for potential candidates for the party.
In the CEC meeting, besides PCC president Sudip Roy Barman and CLP leader Ratan Lal Nath, former PCC president Birajit Sinha will also remain present as special invitee. Sources said, PCC president and CLP leader will fly to Delhi after attending Monday’s demonstration in front of ERO offices.
