Poll panel’s visit to 3 NE states begins on Saturday

Agartala: Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath will visit the coming weekend Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya where elections are due, officials said on Monday.

The Election Commission team will review the preparations in the three states.

The team is expected to reach Agartala on Saturday. The next day, it would go to Nagaland. It will be in Meghalaya January 7, an official told IANS.

Assembly elections are due to be held in February in the three northeastern states. The assemblies in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland have 60 seats each. Their terms expire March 10, March 16 and March 26 respectively. (IANS)
